Hot springs have a very long history in Japan, and they are an intimate part of Japanese culture. There are over 3,000 "onsen" ,or hot springs, in Japan. Many can be found at the ryokans available on Japanese Guest Houses.

Welcome to Tokiwaya. This Modern Ryokan has been in business since 1870 and operated by the same family for 4 generations. There are 27 Japanese-style guest rooms and 3 combined Western and Japanese-style guest rooms, and all of the guest rooms have their own private bath and toilet. There are 2 indoor and 2 outdoor hot spring baths for both women and men (same gender only). There are also 2 hot spring "family baths" which can be privately reserved and are open 24 hours a day. Please ask at the front desk for details when checking in. Traditional Japanese style fish (freshly caught from nearby Suruga Bay) and seafood cuisine is served to the guests at Tokiwaya.
