This was the first time my husband and I have stayed in a ryokan, and we absolutely loved it! Service throughout our stay was attentive and friendly. Hotel staff showed us to our room, gave us a tour of the room, brought us a small snack, and explained how to put on the yukata. Our room was beautiful and had a lovely view of the mountains, with couches for us to sit on and enjoy the view or read comfortably. There were tatami mats everywhere and I just love how they smelled. Our bathroom included a squat toilet and a Western style toilet with bidet. We enjoyed checking out the onsen. I visited the indoor one because the outdoor one was closed when we arrived due to rain; my husband went to the outdoor one in the morning and told me it was beautiful. The shower area provided everything we could have needed. It felt so great to soak in the hot water after running around sightseeing so much. We had a fabulous dinner that included shabu shabu, sashimi, lots of little bites, rice, miso soup, pickles, and fruit for dessert. We were given a little bit of sake and also had a bottle of sochu from the mini-bar. Futon beds were set up for us after we ate and they were very comfortable. In the morning, we had a huge breakfast that included delicious fish, tofu, yogurt, more little bites, and soup, rice, and pickles. Neither of us is huge fish eaters but we loved the dried fish (I believe it was aji, or horse mackerel) that came with breakfast. Along with staying in a beautiful room and experiencing the onsen, trying so many new and interesting foods was a huge highlight for us. Fantastic stay all around!

Amazing place! A 10 ish minute scenic walk from the station was manageable with two large suitcases. We stayed for one night, service was impeccable and the room was very luxurious and a lot bigger than we imagined. One of the ceiling lights were broken and staff came to fix it. The indoors onsen was several degrees hotter than the outdoors one, but the view from the outdoor one was nice in the evening. Will be coming back here in the future.

We had a delightful time at the Ryokan Senkei. There was a bit of a muddle at check-in, as the reservation was in the name of the Japanese Guest House booking agent, rather than in our names. Once that was cleared up, everything went smoothly. We had a beautiful room, the service was more than impeccable, the food was bountiful, delicious, and beautifully presented. We stayed for three nights, and each dinner was different and beyond what we could have imagined. My husband loved starting each day in the outdoor onsen, and I enjoyed it in the afternoons. The indoor onsens were also quite nice and very clean. Hakone itself was fun to explore, and we enjoyed a bus trip to the lake with views of Mt. Fuji. All in all, we highly recommend a visit to Hakone, especially to the Ryokan Senkei.

My second time to Hotel Senkei. Near Hakone yumoto station. Cosy ryokan. Nice Kaiseki dinner and tasty breakfast. Enjoyed both the public outdoor and indoor onsens very much. Not too crowded. Wish there is more complimentary shuttles to the train station.
