Hot springs have a very long history in Japan, and they are an intimate part of Japanese culture. There are over 3,000 "onsen" ,or hot springs, in Japan. Many can be found at the ryokans available on Japanese Guest Houses.
It is a 65 minute bus ride from JR Kyoto train station to Oharanosato. From JR Kyoto train station, go to the C3 bus platform and take the bus to the end of the line to Ohara. If they are available, the owners will pick you up at the bus stop if you call ahead of time. From the Kokusai Kaikan subway station, it is a 20 minute taxi ride to Oharanosato.
