Hot springs have a very long history in Japan, and they are an intimate part of Japanese culture. There are over 3,000 "onsen" ,or hot springs, in Japan. Many can be found at the ryokans available on Japanese Guest Houses.

Welcome to the Sounkyo Kanko Hotel. This is a very large Ryokan Hotel with a "Honkan" and a "Bekkan" containing a total of 242 guest rooms. Most of the guest rooms at the Sounkyo Kanko Hotel are Japanese style rooms, although some are Western style, and each room has its own bath and toilet (no hot spring water in private baths). There are shared indoor and outdoor hot spring baths at the Sounkyo Kanko Hotel. The women's indoor hot spring bath holds up to 170 guests and it is open 24 hours a day. The men's indoor hot spring bath holds up to 150 guests and it is open 24 hours a day. The men's outdoor hot spring baths both hold up to 15 guests, and from these baths guests can relax and enjoy a view of the surrounding mountains. The women's outdoor hot spring bath is open 24 hours a day, and the men's outdoor hot spring bath is open from 15:00 to 12:00 midnight. Fresh, local cuisine is served to the guests throughout the year at the Sounkyo Kanko Hotel. Check-in time is after 15:00 and check-out time is before 10:00 am. Parking is available.
