Welcome to Nonomura Family Homestay. This is the perfect option if you want to have contact with a Japanese family. You will discover the rural side of Kyoto. Their house is located in a tiny village facing rice fields. They are proud of their sumptuous Sukiyaki prepare with premium Japanese beef. While guests are staying in the modern building, it's possible to have dinner in the Honkan (main old building) upon request. My husband and I stayed for two nights at the Nonomura's Guest House and had the time of our lives. As Megumi told us, "While you are here, you are family, and when you leave, we are friends." We felt so welcome and pampered beyond belief. Every moment is one we will treasure forever. It was the highlight of our entire two week trip. The home cooking was amazing and enlightening (the nabe hot pot was so so delicious, and I now have ponzu sauce in my home after trying it there), our futons were so, so comfy, the tea and treats in our room were delightful, the anniversary cake Megumi brought for our anniversary was delightful, and Megumi was an amazing, polite, kind host. Megumi also taught us how to make okonomiyaki, a rich and delicious, savory pancake. I can hardly describe how touching my time was in Kameoka. We were shown around town, visiting local shrines, temples, all while learning about Megumi and her heritage. We did a day-long tour, as well, visiting a natural hot spring (amazing!), a sake brewery (not the most remarkable thing on its own, but the sake was delicious), and a shiatsu massage (lovely). Even in March, before the sakura blossoms bloom, it was a gorgeous area, and truly the highlight was embracing Japanese culture by spending time with Megumi and her welcoming family. Thank you to the Nonomura family for your hospitality and giving my husband and I the best anniversary we could ask for!

Absolutely wonderful 2 night stay at Megumi‘s house. My wife and I had such a lovely time with the whole family, during delicious dinner, during the day with different activities and enjoyed very tasty Japanese breakfast. Located in a small village in Kameoka, it‘s a place to relax, experience and enjoy the local environment, go around by bicycle, walk or car.

We had a wonderfull stay of two days with Megumy and her family, absolutely unforgettable. The privacy of the guesthouse is super, but the interaction with Megumy and het family makes it so special. It gave us the opportunity to ask all our questions about Japanese society and their cultural habits. The family is very open to discussion, a habit you don’t easily find when travelling in Japan. Megumy provided us with two gorgeous meals, one of the best we’ve had in Japan. A two day stay is minimum, we recommend. Thank you Megumy, for this unforgettable experience and the warm welcome! We stayed three nights with Megumi and her family in June 2019. Megumi and the whole family were so friendly and welcomed us so warmly. We had a very spacious and clean guesthouse with living room and bedroom with futon beds (all with A/C). We enjoyed it very much to join the family in their home for the traditional dinner in the evening chatting along and drinking some Sake wine. They even had a birthday cake for my stepson who turned 16 a few days earlier. Megumi served us fresh Japanese breakfast every morning. We had a great time in Kameoka and Kyoto area. We did a river ride to Kyoto and spent the day in town. Megumi took us around her neighborhood visiting Atago-Jinja Shrine and the Yosen Temple. This was actually much nicer than the tourist attractions in Kyoto because we were the only visitors. Returning from our walk, we cooked lunch with Megumi and her friend who came around. Another highlight was the visit to Masahiro Tantoujou sword forge in Kameoka where we forged our own knives in a 4-hour workshop. Awesome! After the hard work, Megumi dropped us at the local Onsen where we relaxed and enjoyed the Japanese bathing culture. Afterwards we had great traditional Japanese multi-course meal (KAISEKI) prepared from fresh, seasonal ingredients in the Japanese restaurant “Sakura” Megumi recommended. Megumi was very helpful with everything. We had a great time and we will never forget the moments we enjoyed with Megumi and her family and the impressions we got of the town of Kameoka. Thank you so much for the great time and the nice farewell gift Megumi’s father painted for us! We hope to meet you all again at some stage. All the best!

We stayed with Megumi's family for one night and had such a good time together. We went to an Onsen and afterwards she prepared amazing food, we tried kimonos on and her children played some instruments and sang for us. It was really heartwarming and we are so thankful for this encounter. The next day, after a good nights sleep, we had a traditional Japanese breakfast and they showed us Kameoka: a shrine, a temple and where they grow their own rice. We would highly recommend staying with Megumi and her family.

Megumi and her family were spectacular hosts and we enjoyed learning more about the Japanese culture. We particularly loved the dinner, during which we cooked an amazing sukiyaki. The children then entertained us with various shows. They made us feel like part of the family and we will forever be grateful for the fantastic experience.

The hospitality and the way the family took us among them was just amazing. We felt us very welcome. We enjoyed the stay very much. It was nice to see Japan outside the big cities and official tourist attractions. The cherry park in Kameoka was ideal for cherry blossom viewing. All the activities we did (journey through rice paddies and farmlands to the historic mountain village of Miyama, 7 lucky temples walk, visit an antique shop...) were very enjoyable with our host Megumi.

Staying with Nonomura Family was a unique and delightful experience. I only regret we stayed only one day….. The hospitality and warmth that the family received us was a hart worming. We were picked up from the train station by Megumi the mother, as we arrived after settling in our sleeping space she took us to a lovely walk in the village, in the evening we participated in amazing family dinner in Suki-Yaki style and the food was remarkable. After diner we enjoyed a cultural program by the kids and we were dressed in kimonos to every one delight. I'm thankful for the opportunity to get to know this wonderful family, and have a glimpse into their life.

What a superb homestay. The Nonomura family were excellent hosts. We met all the family and they were respectful, welcoming and genuine. The lead contact was the mother, Megumi, and she was great at communicating with us in the lead up to our stay. You can tell she is proud of her heritidge and this meant our experience was traditional and worth every penny. The home we stayed in was very clean, very today and with all the facilities you could need and the village that this family live in is such an easy train ride from Kyoto station. We opted for the full package that included the stay and the tour and this was THE BEST option. We were able to go on a brewery tour, walk the lucky temples and visit the antique shop. Megumi suggested many options, it was hard to choose! I can not fault this homestay at all. It exceeded all our expectations and I would recommend it over and over again. Our return can't come quick enough!
