Hot springs have a very long history in Japan, and they are an intimate part of Japanese culture. There are over 3,000 "onsen" ,or hot springs, in Japan. Many can be found at the ryokans available on Japanese Guest Houses.

Welcome to Unzen Fukudaya. This Modern Ryokan is located in Unzen National Park near the active volcano Mount Unzen. Many of Unzen Fukudaya's 34 Japanese-style rooms have their own private bath and toilet. Shared indoor and outdoor hot spring baths are available at Unzen Fukudaya (same gender only). The women's indoor hot spring bath can hold up to 20 bathers, and it is open from 5:00 to 10:00 and from 16:00 to midnight. The men's indoor hot spring bath can hold up to 30 bathers and has the same bathing hours. The outdoor hot spring baths are located in the middle of a Japanese garden, and the surrounding scenery is gorgeous; these baths are open from 5:30 to midnight. There is also a "family bath" that can be reserved for private use. Check-in time at Unzen Fukudaya is after 15:00 and check-out time is before 10:00 am. Parking is available and English is spoken.
